Modern Gun School Earns Middle States Accreditation

June 2016: Modern Gun School announced today that it has earned accreditation as a Branch Campus of Blackstone Career Institute, by the Middle States Association Commissions on Elementary and Secondary Schools, a worldwide leader in accreditation and continuous school improvement.

“We are pleased to have earned accreditation by the Middle States Association and to share in our success with the greater school community,” said Valerie Behrle, Director of Education.  “Accreditation confirms and validates the work we do each and every day to ensure a top quality education for our students.” We are thrilled to have MSA regional accreditation come in on the heels of our recent national accreditation by the Distance Education Accrediting Commission, Washington D.C. (DEAC).

Accreditation is a self-evaluation process that schools voluntarily undergo to demonstrate they are meeting a defined set of performance standards. The accreditation process helps schools – and ultimately students – to continuously grow and improve.

The Branch Campus is a separate location of an institution that is geographically apart from the main campus of that institution and is part of the legal status, operated and financed by the governing body at which all or part of the institution’s educational program is delivered.

“The accreditation process examines schools in a holistic way, supplementing student testing data and providing a more complete measure of a school’s performance,” said Henry G. Cram, Ed.D., president of the Middle States Association Commissions on Elementary and Secondary Schools. “School leaders, teachers and parents are to be commended for working together to create a concrete plan focused on providing high quality education for all students.”

For more than seventy years, Modern Gun School has successfully educated thousands of students using time-tested projects and materials. As one of the oldest, most distinguished distance learning gunsmithing schools, Modern Gun School continues to offer quality courses for today’s firearm enthusiasts. Founded in 1946, Modern Gun School has grown into a nationwide distance-learning gunsmith program with proven techniques and a wealth of insider know-how. Over the past several years, Modern Gun School has undergone some significant changes that reflect the school’s commitment to providing quality content about the modern gun industry. Our dedicated staff, student service center, and master gunsmith, deliver a personalized experience for each and every student.

The Middle States Association is a worldwide leader in accreditation and school improvement. For over 125 years, MSA has been helping school leaders establish and reach their goals, develop strategic plans, promote staff development and advance student achievement.  With more than 2,700 MSA-accredited schools across the United States and in nearly 100 countries, MSA is proud of its continuing legacy and its ongoing innovations to meet the challenges of the 21st century and improve educational opportunities for all children.

Blackstone Career Institute Announces Distance Education Accrediting Commission (DEAC) Approval of New Division, Modern Gun School

May 2016: The Distance Education Accreditation Commission (DEAC) approved a new division for Blackstone Career Institute. The new division, Modern Gun School (MGS), is one of the nation’s first distance education schools dedicated to teaching gun repair.

Approved by the U.S. Department of Education as a nationally recognized accrediting agency, the DEAC is also recognized by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA) and strives to identify schools that offer high quality distance education.  DEAC accreditation enables MGS students to qualify for tuition reimbursement from many U.S. companies and the military.

“DEAC approval is a tremendous achievement for us because it recognizes and validates the quality of Modern Gun School’s online gunsmithing programs and distinguishes us from other providers,” said Kevin McCloskey, President of Direct Learning Systems, Inc.  “Our entire staff has worked together to obtain this honor.  Approval of this new division provides additional opportunities for students who wish to participate in employer-sponsored tuition reimbursement and financial aid programs.”

Leah Matthews, Executive Director of the DEAC, said, “Modern Gun School is uniquely qualified to provide gunsmith education and repair techniques using distance education. DEAC’s process entails a comprehensive review of many facets of distance education delivery such as the assessment of curriculum materials, instructor qualifications, disclosures to students, and learning outcomes. In receiving approval of this division, the institution demonstrated its continuing commitment to educational standards and ethical business practices that assure quality and accountability to students.”
